Thankful Thursday – Fattening Friday

I think I’ve come to understand Thanksgiving more as I’ve grown. I’ve always loved Thanksgiving for the food (since my two main food groups are bread and potatoes), but the last few years especially, I love thinking about all I have in my life to give thanks for. This year, I feel like my list is especially long. First of all, I’m thankful for the new job I’m about to start (more on that later) but I’m also thankful for my little family and funyons, my health, my happiness, and everything about living in the northwest! Also for stuffing leftovers.

Stay tuned over the next few days for updates of all my latest life happenings, as well as a few tasty recipes (I was in charge of dessert this year).

I’m thankful for YOU, for reading this blog!

A Month of Thanks – Days 14 – 17

November 14th – I’m thankful to STILL have a job I moderately love after a scary and sad round of layoffs, which chopped my department down by 20%. I’m glad my company was willing to take a chance with me and I hope I can take the extra workload on the horizon and deal with it gracefully and positively.

November 15th – Today I’m thankful for our couples friends that we love sharing life and memories with. It’s always nice to catch up with them and pull ourselves out of our introverted hole every now and then.

November 16th – I’m thankful for Fridays, beer, and chocolate chip cookies. Also for being busy. When I’m not working under deadlines, I can sometimes have difficulties self-motivating. Not a problem today.

November 17th – I’m thankful for occasional alone time, even if I “squander it” by watching Extreme Couponing with my pup instead of doing something worthwhile. I learned a whole lot about coupons today. Hopefully I can learn to cut our grocery costs down so we can add to our house savings fund!

A Month of Thanks: Days 7-13

November 7th – Thankful that a month ago, my pup and I are both healed up after our incident a month ago, and progressing with our charges against the other dog owners. The situation could have been so much worse, but Ramsay healed amazingly fast, and I’m no longer a nervous wreck when we go on walks.

November 8th – I have the most awesome friends, and today, I’m so thankful that one of them is being blessed with an awesome opportunity to audition for a Broadway show. He’s so talented and has worked so hard and he really REALLY deserves this. I’ll be praying that he rocks it on the 14th.

November 9th – I know I already had a day where I was thankful for my hubby, but today, he did a great job of taking care of me when I came home from work and immediately got sick, and proceeded to have some sort of stomach-influenza flu combo. Even when he was sick himself, he was a champion nurse.

November 10th – Thankful to have kept our house clean for a few weeks so it didn’t feel like we were living in complete filth when we couldn’t do anything productive for three straight days. A clean house is a completely foreign thing to us, but something we’ve been trying to focus on the last few months, and I feel like it’s working, AND, as a side-effect, our marriage is benefiting from a clean house.

November 11th – Today, oddly, I’m slightly thankful for being sick (slightly). Shayne and I have never really been SICK sick at the same time before, and despite the fact that we both felt like shit, we got to spend the day talking, napping together, cheering on the Seahawks, snuggling with our pets, and sipping chicken broth. Lots of together time, and even though we didn’t get much DONE, we didn’t waste our sick time being miserable. We tried to be positive and fun and enjoy each other’s company, and we succeeded!

November 12th – Today, my mom gets highlighted. I’m so thankful that we have a close relationship, that we can be friends, that I can turn to her in times of need and trust her for good advice and usually a good laugh too. She brought us Gatorade from the grocery store as soon as she and my dad returned home from their weekend away.

November 13th – I’m SO thankful to be healthy again, after a long LONG weekend of being sick. It’s nice to eat something besides white bread and not stay in bed feeling like a lazy ass all day long. God-forbid I am ever put on bed rest.

Something substantial really is coming. Lots of ideas are brewing in my brain. I just haven’t been able to write them out yet.

A Month of Thanks: Days 4-6

November 4th – I’m thankful for the new weekly tradition my husband and I started, marriage check-ins. Every Sunday morning, we go get coffee and nibbles at a new coffee shop/bakery/cafe and talk about our weeks, plan our meals, and check in with each other. I fully believe that this is one of the best things we’ve ever done for US – it gets us out of the house and away from our usual distractions, puts us in a public place where we have to keep our emotions in check, and forces us to talk about issues. It’s worked well for the last three weeks, and we are thinking about combining it with church for a productive and heart-filling Sunday morning. I love my hubby. Plus, it’s also been a great excuse to eat baked goods.

November 5th – I’m thankful for my job. Even though I sometimes think I’m going to go crazy sitting at my desk, or hit someone with a stapler or something, I’m lucky to have gotten a job right out of college, and I’m extremely lucky to still have that job in today’s economy. My coworkers and managers have given me some insane opportunities, and are always thinking about what I can do to improve my resume and skill set. The people I work most closely with are awesome, and my office is casual and relaxed (or as relaxed as a business office can be). For the most part, I love what I do, and I hope to keep doing it.

November 6th – I’m happy to have the freedom to vote for the candidates and issues that I believe in. So many people don’t have the same freedom, and even though elections don’t always go my way, the point is that I can vote, without fear of persecution. I also appreciate that I can vote by mail, and don’t have to stand in line for hours 🙂

A Month of Thanks: Days 1-3

This month, I’m trying to focus on all of the good people and things in my life. I’m trying to make a point of recognizing one aspect of my life every day that it is a blessing for me. Here are the first three days:

November 1st – I am thankful for the Fall season. November 1st was the launch of Starbucks holiday cup season. It’s such a stupid little thing, but these cups always put me in a happy mood. Wednesday was an absolutely horrid day at the office, and I decided that a peppermint mocha would put me in a better mood to start Thursday. I look forward to red cup launch every year, and always try and get something on the first day to be filled with holiday cheer.

November 2nd – I’m thankful for my husband, Shayne. He’s the sweetest man in the world (not that I’m biased or anything), and he always knows how to cheer me up (usually funny dances or wookie noises). He’s intelligent, caring, and talented at what he does. He doesn’t give himself enough credit, and I don’t give him enough credit. He’s awesome.

November 3rd – Today I am reflecting on how blessed I am by my friends, and I want to highlight Shannon. We met through mutual friends, and quickly became close in high school. We went to college together. Lived down the hall from each other. She was the first person I told when I realized I was in love with my now husband. She is the best listener I know. She’s also just the right size, and fits nicely under my arm for hugs. She’s always there when I need her and I don’t thank her enough. Shanny, I love you!
